About The Position

The Alterations Associate conducts alterations, resizing, and restyling of merchandise sold in Neiman Marcus stores. The role provides professional assistance to fitters on fit, alterability, and the structural quality of apparel. Work must meet Neiman Marcus quality standards and be equal to or better than the garment’s original construction. The associate operates and maintains sewing equipment, inspects completed work, and completes tasks assigned by a manager, supervisor, or lead.

Requirements

Ability to read English and understand instructions from a manager, supervisor, or lead.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types, is preferred.

Responsibilities

Alter constructed garments to meet Neiman Marcus quality standards equal to or better than the original construction.
Perform garment alterations such as adjusting seams, taking in shoulder blades, reducing chest width, narrowing shoulders, rotating sleeves, and shortening sleeves.
Shorten backs and collars and square shoulders.
Shorten or re-line coats and remake inside or outside pockets.
Operate and maintain sewing equipment.
Self-inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
Complete alteration tasks assigned by a supervisor or lead, as well as tasks assigned by a manager.
Assist fitters with fit, alterability, and structural quality of apparel merchandise.
Interpret instructions furnished in written and oral form.
