About The Position

The City and County of Denver is seeking a strong leader to join the Airside Operations department as an Airport Operations Manager at Denver International Airport (DEN). This role is responsible for managing and controlling the day-to-day airfield operations to ensure the efficient movement of aircraft and the safety of airport users. The position requires strong relationship-building skills and a solid understanding of operational airfield duties.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of airport operations experience.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Willingness to be available 24/7/365.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience as an Airport Operations Officer – Airfield and Ramp Tower supporting field operations in a medium or large hub civilian airport or military facility.
  • One (1) year of appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
  • Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License at the time of application.
  • FBI criminal background check required.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa.

Nice To Haves

  • Part 107 UAS Remote Pilot license.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Experience working in or around ICS (ICS Certification a plus).
  • Aviation snow removal experience.
  • Progressive roles and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in drone operations, including mapping and inspections across the facility and airfield.
  • Manage airfield and terminal operations to ensure efficient flow, safety, and adherence to applicable federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Supervise the work of operational staff involved in aircraft movement and public safety.
  • Manage ongoing inspection of airfield operations and facilities for compliance with the Airport Certification Manual (FAR Part 139) and other federal regulations.
  • Interpret and apply information from FAA Advisory Circulars.
  • Act as Incident Commander for airport emergencies, including aircraft alerts, snow emergencies, severe weather, irregular operations, security breaches, train system shutdowns, medical emergencies, power failures, hazardous materials incidents, bomb threats, and other terminal/concourse or landside roadway incidents.
  • Negotiate and coordinate with FAA, contractors, airlines, Airport Security, engineering, maintenance, and tenants to optimize aircraft and vehicle flow rates while minimizing impact on airport operations during critical maintenance activities.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute the airport snow plan, initiating and canceling Airport Snow Alerts and Snow Emergencies.
  • Monitor runway conditions for snow contamination and coordinate removal.
  • Ensure optimized aircraft flow rate by coordinating snow removal with the FAA.
  • Issue NOTAMs as needed.
  • Follow National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements and determine necessary local, state, and federal resources for emergency management.
  • Provide tactical supervision of employees from other airport divisions during emergency and non-routine events.
  • Supervise collateral duties or special projects such as airport certification and compliance, department training, airport construction, snow and ice control, vehicle coordination, weather systems coordination, and section scheduling.
  • Develop or modify work plans, methods, and procedures; determine work priorities and develop work schedules for adequate staff coverage.
  • Provide work instruction and assist employees with challenging assignments; encourage innovation.
  • Assign and distribute work, review for accuracy and completeness, and provide recommendations for completion.
  • Anticipate and resolve problems encountered during daily operations; promote teamwork and encourage regular communication.
  • Document causes for disciplinary action, initiate letters of reprimand, and make formal recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Respond to employee grievances and prepare written responses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
