The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The full salary range for this position is $32.44-50.28/hour. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $38.00-45.00/hour base pay, based on experience and education. In this position you can expect to work on site at Denver International Airport (parking is provided) - Denver International Airport, 8500 Pena Blvd. Denver, CO 80249. Shifts consist of four (4) 10-hour days, Sunday-Wednesday OR Wednesday-Saturday. The primary shift will be discussed in interview and can be any of the shifts listed below. Shifts are yearlong commitments and are subject to change based on operational need. Day Shift: 0530-1530 (5:30 AM-3:30 PM) Swing Shift: 1300-2300 (1:00 PM-11:00 PM) Graveyard Shift: 1830-0630 (8:30 PM-6:30 AM) All new hires begin on a temporary assignment to the day shift (6:00 AM–4:00 PM) for initial onboarding and integration into site operations. After a six-month probationary period, you will be placed in your regular, assigned shift. At present, we need someone who is flexible and can work any shift, including graveyards. Shift bids take place annually in June and are determined by seniority. Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change. 7%-12% pay differential depending on shift assigned. Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occur, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays). Participate in mandatory snow removal duties. Hours for On Call Snow Overtime: 3:30am to 3:30pm or 3:30pm to 3:30am. Uniforms are provided along with a work boot allowance. Mobile phone stipend. Requirements

  • Possess a Stationary Engineer License (or ability to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire) is required
  • Experience in a Central Utility Plant maintenance
  • Experience in operating Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of boiler experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of chiller experience (maintenance, repair, and operation)
  • Pump and valve rebuilds and motor alignment experience helpful

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment such as boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pumps

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment (VFD), components, instruments, including installation, testing, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Technical Competence and Technical Problem Solving – Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies systems malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices, and of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce hydronic heating and cooling
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Three (3) years of experience in Stationary Engineering
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
  • This job requires driving.
  • Requires a valid Driver's license at the time of application
  • Requires EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (CFC) before the end of probation (6 months)
  • Requires City and County of Denver Stationary Engineer License before the end of probation (6 months)
  • FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN).
  • Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment.
  • By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, operates, and repairs building and facility equipment related to the heating and cooling hydronic networks, control systems, which includes mechanical components such as chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers and cooling towers
  • Performs routine and non-routine preventative maintenance based on operating procedures and regularly scheduled maintenance activities of equipment, and regularly inspects facilities, buildings, and grounds for unsafe or malfunctioning systems and conditions
  • Assist other trades personnel in the maintenance and repair of building and facility infrastructure and equipment, which includes the installation and modification of equipment
  • Plans and leads the maintenance and installation of major building and facility equipment repairs and related activities within a variety of specific trades areas, which includes the evaluation and recommendation of service upgrades
  • Responds to building and facility tenant complaints regarding safety issues and environmental control conditions, which includes following up on work orders, and prioritizing service calls
  • Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians regarding contracted service agreements.
  • Provides input to supervisors and managers responsible for planning and controlling annual budgets
  • Orders parts and supplies as required and maintains stock and inventory control.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports, which includes estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs
  • May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs, respond to after- hour calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
  • Responsible for the energy management systems that overlay Central Utility Plant equipment controls, and equipment maintenance schedules
  • Troubleshooting and maintaining BACnet/LON networks and Metasys BAS
