About The Position

Performs maintenance on buildings and grounds at Danville Regional Airport and mass transit facilities. Duties include maintaining airport grounds and facilities, clearing debris from runways and taxiways, checking runway lights, maintaining T-hangars, removing snow, performing custodial duties, and answering phones. The position also provides security at transportation facilities by checking grounds and gates daily, and maintains mass transit facilities, bus stops, the transit garage, and the administrative maintenance facility. Additional duties include maintaining a safe and healthy workspace, attending meetings and training sessions, and carrying out other operational assignments as needed. The employee is expected to use and maintain City equipment and resources appropriately and maintain regular, predictable attendance.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
Up to one year of experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
Obtain a Pesticide Applicator certification within one year of employment.
Basic familiarity with common work principles and terminology and the ability to understand and solve simple problems.
Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
Ability to provide basic information to people outside direct reporting relationships and work toward understanding and cooperation.
Ability to perform assigned work after receiving general instructions, with some discretion among a few clearly identifiable choices.
Ability to use advanced technical skills and exercise independent judgment in applying them.
Ability to meet the described physical demands, including frequent standing and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, balancing, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and climbing.
Regular and predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

Cut grass, brush, and slopes; mulch; and maintain airport grounds.
Clear runways and taxiways of debris and remove snow from assigned areas.
Perform custodial duties and check runway lights.
Perform maintenance on T-hangars and answer phones.
Check transportation facility grounds and gates daily to provide security.
Maintain mass transit facilities on Spring Street, the transit garage, and the administrative maintenance facility.
Replace and remove bus stop signs, cut grass, and paint bus stop curbs.
Replace lights and signs at the airport and spray pesticides for weeds.
Maintain a safe and healthy workspace through housekeeping duties.
Attend meetings and training sessions and perform additional duties as assigned.
Use and maintain City equipment, tools, and other resources appropriately.
