This position requires the maintenance and servicing of aircraft armament equipment, including the upload and download of ordnance stores/devices and performance of systems tests/checks in support of the squadron. Services are provided at the O-Level maintenance on assigned aircraft types. The role functions as an assistant ordnance crew leader and certified QASO to ensure all operations are performed safely and correctly in support of RDT&E programs. The candidate must become qualified/certified and maintain qualifications and currency on ALL T/M/S aircraft assigned to VX-31. Routine lifting in excess of OSHA standards is required, with routine ordnance loading requiring team lifts of ordnance items up to 167 pounds' load share per team member, in accordance with standard USN procedures. Responsibilities include diagnosing, repairing, replacing, and/or rebuilding aircraft ordnance related components of moderate difficulty, such as installation and removal of aircraft pylons/stores/devices utilizing hand tools and power tools. The candidate will read and interpret manufacturer's publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components, and inspects ordnance components for cracks and other damage as required. Troubleshooting, removal, replacement, and repair of aircraft ordnance system components are also key duties. Miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems will be performed. As directed by site operations and site management, the candidate may be certified as a CDI. The role requires the ability to correctly prioritize workload to maintain schedules and maintenance standards on assigned projects. The candidate is required to maintain and service the F-18 (Series) Ordnance related systems/components as required in support of Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 31 RDT&E Programs in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions. This involves applying technical knowledge of Ordnance related systems principles in determining equipment malfunctions and restoring equipment operation, evaluating performance and reliability of prototype or production mods, and recommending changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Advanced technical knowledge will be applied to solve Ordnance systems problems by interpreting manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents. The candidate could be required to fill a Phase Shop position. Repair, replacement, and rebuilding of aircraft ordnance and related components of moderate difficulty, including installation and removal of pylons/stores/devices using hand and power tools, are essential. Reading and interpreting technical publications, troubleshooting, and performing miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems are also part of the role. Certification as a CDI may be required. The ability to prioritize workload effectively is crucial.
