About The Position

This position involves servicing aircraft, directing aircraft on the flight line, and performing various maintenance tasks. The role requires ensuring aircraft are properly fueled, oiled, and cleaned, as well as maintaining accurate maintenance records. The mechanic will operate ground support equipment and perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to support daily flight operations. A key aspect of the role is serving as a Plane Captain, certified in accordance with government standards for specific aircraft types.

Requirements

  • Released from military service with an Honorable Discharge.
  • Completed the appropriate Navy Skill Specialty T/M Class "C" school in airframe, electronic, avionics, hydraulic, or power plants and related systems training or equivalent USMC/USCG equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in O-Level maintenance in the specific T/M aircraft hired to maintain (F-18).
  • Two years T/M experience within the last two years.
  • T/M aircraft Plane Captain Qualification.
  • Tow tractor and duct driver qualification.
  • Must be able to operate GSE in support of the assigned airframe.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Maintenance experience in one or more of the following areas: aircraft structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, or egress systems.

Responsibilities

  • Direct incoming and outgoing aircraft near the terminal area or flight line to assist the pilot's maneuvering of the aircraft on the ground, using hand or light signals or driving a light truck with a guiding sign.
  • Secure aircraft in parking position with blocks and stakes.
  • Operate service vehicles to replenish fuel, oil, water, waste system chemicals, oxygen, hydraulic fluid, and to remove waste.
  • Check for fuel contamination by draining sumps and fuel drains.
  • Enter in the maintenance records the description of the servicing performed.
  • Operate ground support equipment such as electrical power supply and engine starting units.
  • Examine tires for specified air pressure and condition.
  • Remove and replace defective tires.
  • Position and remove boarding platforms to unload or load aircraft passengers.
  • Unload and load luggage and cargo, using a tow truck with luggage carts.
  • Clean exterior or interior of aircraft wings and assemblies, using glycol mixture, periodic housekeeping, and fluid spills using portable platform ladders, brushes, rags, water hose, cleaning compound applicator, and mobile vacuum.
  • Install drag chutes or retrieve them and send them to the parachute shop for repacking.
  • Perform scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on applicable T/M/S aircraft.
  • Perform flight line essential services and other maintenance-related actions as directed to support the daily Flight Schedule.
  • Be licensed to drive and operate Ground Support Equipment.
  • Serve as a Plane Captain certified in accordance with a Government approved certification process for each T/M/S applicable to their background experience and/or documented equivalent training for the applicable T/M/S.
  • Assist in jacking and towing aircraft.
  • Unload and load aircraft stores, PODs, ordnance, and cargo.
