About The Position

AMPORTS is a leading finished-vehicle and roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) terminal operator providing vehicle processing, storage, and logistics services across multiple U.S. port facilities. Its operations include terminal services, vehicle processing, yard management, and the corporate functions that support the network. AMPORTS is expanding its use of artificial intelligence by pairing technical expertise with employees who understand the day-to-day work, from terminal operations to the back office. The AI Solutions Engineer partners directly with AMPORTS operational and corporate teams to identify, build, deploy, and support artificial intelligence solutions that improve how work is performed. This hands-on role embeds with terminal operations, vehicle processing, yard management, finance, and administrative teams to understand workflows and translate operational challenges into practical solutions using Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and related technologies. The position develops agents, prompt-driven workflows, document and data automations, reporting tools, and lightweight system integrations. Success is measured through deployed solutions, sustained user adoption, measurable operational results, and effective handoff to business and technical support teams.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, solutions engineering, forward-deployed engineering, automation, analytics engineering, applied artificial intelligence, or a comparable hands-on technical delivery role.
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying large language model solutions, including agents, assistants, retrieval workflows, document workflows, or prompt-engineered automations adopted by end users.
  • Practical proficiency with Claude, Microsoft Copilot, or comparable enterprise generative AI platforms.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of prompt design, context design, solution evaluation, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Python or a comparable scripting language.
  • Experience working with APIs, JSON, connectors, and lightweight system integrations.
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment, including SharePoint, Excel, and Power Automate.
  • Experience gathering requirements directly from non-technical users and translating complex or informal processes into scoped technical solutions.
  • Experience testing solutions with end users, incorporating feedback, and supporting deployment into active business workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical considerations to operational employees, technical partners, and business leaders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in ports, logistics, transportation, manufacturing, supply chain, or another operations-intensive industry.
  • Experience with agent frameworks, Model Context Protocol (MCP), tool-use integrations, or retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft Azure, or enterprise data pipelines.
  • Experience delivering solutions in a forward-deployed engineering, solutions consulting, or customer-facing technical role.
  • Experience supporting technology solutions across distributed or multi-site operations.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Embeds with terminal operations, vehicle processing, yard management, finance, and administrative teams to observe workflows and identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, errors, delays, and operating costs.
  • Evaluates potential AI use cases based on business value, technical feasibility, data availability, security considerations, implementation effort, and expected operational impact.
  • Defines a clear problem statement, solution scope, success measure, and human oversight requirement before beginning development.
  • Maintains and prioritizes a backlog of AI use cases based on impact, effort, dependencies, risk, and readiness for deployment.
  • Designs, builds, and deploys AI agents, custom projects, prompt-driven workflows, document and email automations, data extraction processes, summarization tools, and reporting aids.
  • Integrates AI solutions with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Excel, Power Platform, terminal and yard systems, application programming interfaces (APIs), and other approved business technologies.
  • Develops rapid prototypes and tests solutions with end users using representative workflows and approved business data.
  • Iterates on solutions until they deliver reliable results, fit the operational environment, and provide measurable improvement over the existing process.
  • Implements usage, performance, and outcome monitoring so adoption, solution health, and business impact are visible from deployment.
  • Coordinates solution rollout around terminal and business operating schedules to minimize disruption to productivity and throughput.
  • Documents solution functionality, operating procedures, limitations, data dependencies, support requirements, and situations requiring human judgment.
  • Provides side-by-side testing, task-based coaching, and knowledge transfer to end users and designated site or function-level power users.
  • Monitors deployed solutions for performance drift, technical failures, declining adoption, and changing business requirements, and recommends corrective action, retirement, or redesign when appropriate.
  • Partners with IT, security, data, and business stakeholders to address access, licensing, integration, data handling, governance, and responsible-use requirements.
