AI Solutions Engineer

Wiley•Hoboken, NJ
•$88,100 - $123,367

About The Position

Wiley is hiring an AI Solutions Engineer to work directly with business teams, initially supporting Business Operations & Strategic Programs in Research. The role is part of the Automation and AI Enablement team in Platform Engineering, which provides engineering standards, code review, security and governance guidance, and career development. The engineer is forward deployed: they work with one business team at a time and move on after solutions are running and owned by that team. The role focuses on solving business problems with Microsoft Power Platform, AI services, and existing Wiley systems before turning to custom code. Solutions may address document information capture, consistent business-document preparation, and routine data questions. The engineer shapes requests into clear problems and measures, builds and deploys maintainable solutions, helps business teams adopt AI, and measures outcomes such as time saved, error rates, and adoption. Solutions are developed quickly, then hardened for production in partnership with the Automation and AI Enablement team. They must follow Platform Engineering standards and be maintainable by the business teams that own them.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years building business automation or internal tools used by real users.
  • Hands-on delivery experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate cloud and desktop flows and Power Apps, plus Dataverse or SharePoint as a data layer.
  • Practical experience using LLMs or AI services in a working solution, including prompt design and output checks; examples include Azure OpenAI, Copilot Studio, AI Builder, or a model API.
  • Comfort using AI as a working partner to explore problems, compare approaches, and draft and test solutions with tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor.
  • Scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or a similar language, including calling REST APIs and handling JSON.
  • Experience working directly with non-technical stakeholders, including discovery, process mapping, and explaining trade-offs in plain language.
  • Sound judgment to choose the simplest effective solution and avoid building when a configured tool will suffice.
  • Ability to work independently within a business team while following engineering standards for security, testing, and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certifications such as PL-200, PL-400, or AI-102.
  • Experience with RPA tools such as UiPath or Power Automate Desktop.
  • Business-setting experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), document intelligence, or agent frameworks.
  • Background in publishing, research, or another content-heavy business.
  • Prior work as a forward deployed engineer, solutions engineer, or embedded consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside business teams, observe their workflows, and identify repetitive or manual work.
  • Move between business teams, supporting one team at a time until its solutions are running and owned.
  • Translate requests into clear problem statements, success measures, and recommended approaches; identify when a simpler fix is more appropriate.
  • Build solutions primarily with Power Automate, Power Apps, Copilot Studio, AI Builder, and Dataverse; use APIs, scripts, or custom code when platform tools are insufficient.
  • Apply AI capabilities such as document extraction, summarization, retrieval, and agents where they are more effective than rules-based automation, with checks to maintain accuracy.
  • Teach business teams to use AI through hands-on sessions, pairing, and practical guides.
  • Deliver working solutions quickly and take them to production with the Automation and AI Enablement team, including security review, testing, monitoring, and support handoff.
  • Create simple, documented, maintainable solutions that the business team can manage without hidden dependencies on the engineer.
  • Integrate solutions with Wiley systems such as SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, Salesforce, Power BI, and line-of-business systems using connectors and APIs.
  • Follow Platform Engineering standards, environments, and hosting, including PartyBus when a solution needs a home.
  • Measure and share solution outcomes, including hours saved, error rates, and adoption; document reusable practices.
  • Contribute reusable components and lessons to the Automation and AI Enablement team.

Benefits

  • Meeting-free Friday afternoons, allowing more time for focused work and professional development.
  • Employee programs offering opportunities to foster community, learn, and grow.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
