About The Position

Karsun Solutions is hiring an AI Solution Architect to support modernization of digital services and delivery of healthcare and benefits programs for Veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The program expands the Digital Transformation Center’s ability to deliver enterprise applications using modern development frameworks, low-code and no-code platforms, and cloud-based SaaS and PaaS environments. It supports multiple concurrent products for a broad range of users while maintaining reliability, security, and delivery speed across a complex enterprise platform environment.

The role assesses, designs, and oversees secure enterprise AI architectures integrated into the VA operational and functional baseline. It applies AI and machine learning architecture patterns across cloud and on-premise platforms, defines reusable integrations with the DTC’s enterprise platforms, leads AI integration efforts, establishes AI governance, and guides engineering and delivery teams. The architect also educates VA stakeholders and DTC Platform Leads on architecture options, tradeoffs, and adoption.

Applicants must reside in one of the listed states and be authorized to work in the U.S. The role requires eligibility to obtain a security clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust background investigation. Candidates must be available on contract award and willing to sign a letter of commitment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Systems, Operations Research, or a related field, plus a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• Demonstrated experience designing secure enterprise AI or machine learning architectures across cloud and/or on-premise platforms.
• Demonstrated experience leading enterprise AI integration efforts across multiple initiatives.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust background investigation.
• Available on contract award and willing to sign a letter of commitment.
• Eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
• Must reside in CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, or VA.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

• A professional-level cloud architecture certification, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
• Experience architecting generative AI or large language model solutions for production use in federal, healthcare, or other regulated environments.
• Experience with FedRAMP, ATO, or NIST AI Risk Management Framework processes.
• Experience with AI capabilities on Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform, Pega, or Appian.

Responsibilities

• Assess, design, and oversee secure enterprise AI architectures that integrate into VA’s operational and functional baseline.
• Apply AI and machine learning architecture patterns across cloud and on-premise platforms to improve scalability, reusability, security, and governance, aligned to business and system dependencies.
• Define how AI capabilities integrate with DTC enterprise platforms, including Salesforce/MuleSoft, Microsoft Power Platform/Dynamics, Pega, Box, and Appian, keeping designs platform-agnostic and reusable across products.
• Lead enterprise AI integration efforts and validate architectural decisions through DTC solution architecture and security architecture approval gates.
• Establish AI governance practices, including model selection, human oversight, responsible use, and protection of PII and PHI under HIPAA and VA privacy requirements.
• Guide the AI Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, and delivery teams to ensure consistent, compliant delivery across multiple initiatives.
• Educate VA stakeholders and DTC Platform Leads on AI architecture options, tradeoffs, and adoption.
