AI Solution Architect

D.R. Horton•Arlington, TX

About The Position

D.R. Horton is seeking an AI Solution Architect to help define how modern data and AI capabilities come together in secure, scalable, and reusable solutions. The role translates business problems into solution patterns, guides design decisions, and connects data, applications, integration, security, and AI services into production-ready architectures. It focuses on solution-level architecture for specific products and use cases, within enterprise standards established by the Principal Enterprise Platform Architect. The architect will help ensure priority solutions are built on reusable, well-documented architectures that teams can extend, with clear and timely design decisions and understood tradeoffs. This is a hands-on role that requires moving between strategy, architecture, and implementation while helping teams address current needs and future opportunities. The position works with engineering, platform, security, governance, vendors, business subject-matter experts, and other cross-functional partners. Overnight travel is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of solution architecture, data architecture, software engineering, data engineering, or related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data platforms, APIs and integration, cloud architecture, AI/ML and generative AI patterns, security, and observability.
  • Experience designing production solutions that span multiple systems and teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain architecture to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, communicate clearly, and deliver results in an evolving environment.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships across the organization and balance enterprise standards with business needs and operating realities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Snowflake, Azure, the Microsoft ecosystem, RAG and vector search, semantic layers and data contracts, agentic architectures, MCP (Model Context Protocol) and tool integration, model routing and provider abstraction, hybrid cloud and private inference, document AI and unstructured data, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience in homebuilding, real estate, construction, mortgage, title, land development, sales, purchasing, finance, customer care, or another distributed operating business.
  • Experience working in a large enterprise with complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience founding, incubating, or building new products, capabilities, or businesses from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business and product requirements into end-to-end solution architectures covering data, AI, APIs, applications, identity, security, observability, and support.
  • Define domain data models, data flows, integration patterns, semantic access, RAG and knowledge patterns, and AI service interactions.
  • Ensure priority solutions align with enterprise reference architectures, documenting justified exceptions and local configuration needs.
  • Lead technical design sessions and architecture reviews with engineering, platform, security, governance, vendors, and business subject-matter experts.
  • Evaluate solution alternatives and communicate tradeoffs in speed, complexity, cost, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Represent the function in cross-functional discovery, architecture, governance, operational-readiness, and continuous-improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Stay current on relevant data, AI, digital, software, and industry practices and apply new capabilities when they create practical business value.
  • Identify, shape, and pilot opportunities where data, AI, and digital capabilities can create business value, building, testing, and learning quickly.
  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Travel overnight as required.
