What you’ll do: We are seeking a highly motivated Student to join our Engineering Practices team for a four-month work term. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape how AI is adopted across engineering teams by contributing to technical documentation modernization, standards consolidation, and AI enablement initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering leaders, staff engineers and development communities to improve the discoverability, consistency, and adoption of technical standards, best practices, AI guidance, and engineering playbooks. This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about software engineering, technical communication, AI technologies, and developer productivity.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, System Design Engineering, AI/Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related discipline).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and passion for creating well-structured documentation.
  • Basic programming experience in one or more languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin.
  • Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration.
  • Basic understanding of prompt engineering and effective interaction with AI tools
  • Experience using AI-powered developer productivity and content generation tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Documentation & Collaboration experience an asset (e.g. Markdown, Mermaid diagrams, Confluence, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in standardizing and modernizing engineering documentation using AI-assisted approaches.
  • Explore AI tools and techniques that can improve documentation quality, discoverability, and maintenance.
  • Engage with developers and engineering teams to gather feedback and suggestions on AI-driven documentation approaches, collaborate with Staff Engineers to evaluate and refine proposed solutions, and support the rollout, adoption, and continuous improvement of approved documentation standards and practices.
  • Develop documentation templates, examples, and reusable artifacts that improve developer onboarding and knowledge sharing.
  • Apply hands-on coding and AI-assisted development skills to create AI-based documentation workflows, automation patterns, and developer guidance that improve how technical documentation is produced, maintained, and discovered.
  • Support the consolidation of coding standards, engineering best practices, architectural guidance, and development guardrails into common playbooks.
  • Assist in analyzing and organizing standards from multiple teams, platforms, and technology stacks.
  • Help create centralized repositories and knowledge bases that serve as a single source of truth.
  • Participate in Community of Practice (CoP) sessions and assist Staff Engineers in driving the adoption of shared engineering standards, reusable AI instruction sets, prompt libraries, agent configurations, and centralized guidance repositories, while exploring scalable approaches for sharing AI enablement assets and knowledge across development teams.
  • Use technical skills to prototype practical solutions, including reusable scripts, AI-assisted workflows, and proof-of-concepts that help validate and operationalize engineering standards and guardrails.
  • Research and evaluate emerging AI tools that support software development, documentation, testing, code reviews, and engineering workflows.
  • Contribute to AI adoption initiatives by documenting use cases, lessons learned, and recommended practices.
  • Help develop AI instruction sets, prompts, templates, and guidance materials that can be reused by engineering teams.
  • Assist with workshops, demonstrations, onboarding materials, and communication assets supporting broader AI adoption.
  • Contribute hands-on technical work by using coding skills and AI-enabled development tools to execute proof-of-concepts, validate ideas, and demonstrate how AI can improve developer productivity and engineering workflows.
