About The Position

Silver Knights Chess Academy is hiring an After School Teacher to teach chess to elementary school children ages 5–11 in small-group, after-school settings. The academy provides a curriculum and thorough paid training on teaching children chess. The role pays starting at $55 per hour-long club, with additional time needed for setup and cleanup. Teachers should be available at least three weekdays during the school year between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and have reliable transportation. The academy describes this as a part-time opportunity.

Requirements

Be available at least three weekdays during the school year between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Have a reliable vehicle for transportation.
Be able to lift 25 pounds of teaching equipment.
Be able to learn and use new software tools.
Have interest and enthusiasm for playing chess; master-level chess ability is not required.
Want to work with children ages 5–11.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a camp counselor, tutor, teacher, coach, after-school instructor, or in preschool or daycare.
A flexible schedule; examples include being an Uber or Lyft driver, a student, or a retired person seeking part-time work.

Responsibilities

Manage a classroom of 10–20 students.
Use the academy’s curriculum to demonstrate and communicate basic chess rules and strategy, including piece movement, castling, check, and checkmate.
Promote good sportsmanship among students.
Responsibly store and maintain teaching equipment and materials.
Supervise parent pickup.
