About The Position

Silver Knights Chess Academy is hiring an After School Teacher to teach chess to elementary school children ages 5–11 in small groups. The academy provides curriculum and thorough, paid training. The role is part-time during after-school hours in the school year, beginning in the fall. Pay starts at $55 per hour-long club; total time commitment is longer to account for setup and cleanup. Teachers must be available at least three weekdays during the school year between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. A typical session includes arriving at school and setting up, teaching a lesson, supervising practice games, cleaning up, and overseeing parent pickup. Teachers may be eligible for a free Diamond-level chess.com membership, staff parties, and other perks. Requirements

Be available at least three weekdays during the school year between 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Have a reliable vehicle for transportation.
Be able to lift 25 pounds of teaching equipment.
Be able to learn and use new software tools.
Have interest and enthusiasm for playing chess; master-level playing ability is not required.
Want to work with children ages 5–11.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a camp counselor, tutor, teacher, coach, after-school instructor, or in preschool or daycare.
A flexible schedule, such as that of a rideshare driver, student, or retired person.

Responsibilities

Manage a classroom of 10–20 students.
Use the provided curriculum to demonstrate and effectively communicate basic chess rules and strategy, including piece movement, castling, check, and checkmate.
Promote good sportsmanship among students.
Responsibly store and maintain teaching equipment and materials.
Supervise parent pickup.
Set up and clean up teaching materials and equipment.
