About The Position

The Urbana School District #116 is seeking an After School Programming Support Staff member to assist with its after-school program at Urbana Middle School. This role involves supporting students, contributing to daily instruction, and maintaining a positive environment. The position reports to teachers, coordinators, building administration, and/or the Director of Grants, and supervises students. The role is an hourly position with specific hours determined by the coordinator/building administrator/director, running from September 8, 2026, to April 29, 2027, on Tuesdays through Thursdays. An orientation meeting is scheduled prior to the program startup, and a stipend is provided. This position is not part of the collective bargaining unit and is not administrative in nature. Performance will be evaluated according to the Board's policy on support staff.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or 60 hours of college credit required.
  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • Prior experience working for USD 116 Afterschool Program is preferred.
  • Internal applicants only.
  • De-escalation strategies, social and emotional learning strategies, and relationship building skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Position requires self-initiative and active engagement and participation throughout the day.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions and provide reteaching of information to students participating in the program.
  • Actively participate in the program, contribute to daily instruction, and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Initiate and encourage students attending the program.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the students and staff working in the program.
  • Ask for guidance and assistance from the teacher and/or coordinator when unable to assist a student.
  • Monitor and supervise the students within assigned areas of the school.
  • Support positive approaches for dealing with student behavior.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies when needed.
  • Arrive and depart on time for your scheduled work.
  • Work with small groups on skill-building activities.
  • Perform other specialized duties as assigned (e.g., taking attendance, snack counts, program arrival and departure times).
