About The Position

The After School Programming Support Staff position at Urbana School District #116 is responsible for supporting students participating in the after-school program. This role involves answering questions, reteaching information, actively participating in daily instruction, and completing assigned tasks. The staff member will initiate and encourage student participation, maintain positive relationships with students and staff, and seek guidance when needed. Key responsibilities include monitoring students in assigned areas, supporting positive behavior management, utilizing de-escalation strategies, and arriving/departing on time. The role also involves working with small groups on skill-building activities and performing other duties such as taking attendance and snack counts.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or 60 hours of college credit required.
  • Experience working in a school setting.
  • De-escalation strategies, social and emotional learning strategies, and relationship building skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Position requires self-initiative and active engagement and participation throughout the day.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Prior experience working for USD 116 Afterschool Program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions and provide reteaching of information to students participating in the program.
  • Actively participate in the program, contribute to daily instruction, and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Initiate and encourage students attending the program.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the students and staff working in the program.
  • Ask for guidance and assistance from the teacher and/or coordinator when unable to assist a student.
  • Monitor and supervise the students within assigned areas of the school.
  • Support positive approaches for dealing with student behavior.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies when needed.
  • Arrive and depart on time for your scheduled work.
  • Work with small groups on skill-building activities.
  • Perform other specialized duties as assigned (e.g., taking attendance, snack counts, program arrival and departure times).
