About The Position

Girlstart is seeking After School Program Leaders, referred to as STEM CREW (Creative, Resourceful, Empowered Workforce), to lead their hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs across the Boston, MA area. These programs are designed to provide students with a fun STEM enrichment experience that builds confidence and encourages them to pursue higher education and career opportunities. The programs aim to develop students' skills in collaboration, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking. The commitment for an After School Program Leader is 5-8 hours per week, with leading one program being approximately a 2-hour weekly commitment, including preparation, travel, leading the activity, and cleanup. Additionally, leaders are encouraged to have 1-2 office hours per week for preparation and organization. Mandatory ongoing training is provided.

Requirements

Experience working with kids preferred.
Desire to empower and educate students in STEM.
Reliable transportation is required for the position.
Comfortable presenting to a group of students.
Classroom management skills helpful.
Proficient using Google Drive apps.
Strong time management skills.
All majors welcome (STEM background not required).

Hands-on work experience in an education setting.
Experience delivering fun, informal STEM programs with small groups of students.
Experience improving classroom management skills, teaching style, and gaining curriculum writing experience.
Experience increasing confidence delivering STEM focused material.
On the job training in informal STEM education, the Girlstart Method, gender equity in the classroom, and other issues relating to STEM and integrated STEM education.

Responsibilities

Lead hands-on, STEM-focused After School programs for 20-25 students.
Facilitate activities that build confidence and encourage pursuit of higher education and career opportunities.
Develop students' skills in collaboration, creative problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Be available at least one afternoon per week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays) to lead one program, with the option to lead two.
Be available around 2pm on program days, with programs typically running from 3:00-4:30pm.
Prepare for lessons, organize materials, and manage program logistics.
Participate in mandatory ongoing training.
