IS - After School Language Arts Tutor
About The Position
South Fayette Township School District is seeking an After School Language Arts Tutor to provide instruction to third, fourth, and fifth-grade students who scored basic or below basic on the Reading PSSA tests. The tutor will develop individualized instructional plans, coordinate with classroom teachers, IST teachers, and parents, and assess student progress. This role involves providing after-school instruction twice a week for one hour each session, for a total of 30 hours, along with 9 hours for planning. Additional hours may be compensated for tasks related to student pick-up coordination. The program runs from Tuesday, November 3, 2026, through Tuesday, March 23, 2027.
Requirements
- Valid PA Instructional Certificate — Elementary or Mid-Level Language Arts
- Interest in teaching language arts
Responsibilities
- Schedule a meeting with the classroom teacher and parents to discuss the student's needs.
- Develop a written instructional plan that identifies skills to be addressed during after-school instruction, based on PSSA results and/or Curriculum Based Assessment.
- Provide after-school instruction to students two days per week for one hour.
- Schedule after-school instruction and notify parents of specific times and dates.
- Develop a method for communicating student academic performance to parents.
- Assess student academic performance on a regular basis.
- Maintain an assessment portfolio documenting student progress in meeting identified goals.
- Coordinate appropriate instructional delivery methods, which may include virtual, brick and mortar, or blended approaches.
