About The Position

Farmington Public Schools is seeking a Language Arts Tutor at Farmington High School. This position is responsible for providing instructional support and/or reinforcement of the instructional program for selected students under the supervision of a teacher. The tutor will carry out teacher-prepared lesson plans, supervise teacher-planned activities, assist in the preparation of instructional materials, and record individual student progress. This role requires a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

Requirements

Candidate should hold a Bachelor's Degree (degree in English preferred)
Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form

Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

Responsibilities

Works with teams of teachers to monitor student progress in heterogeneously grouped English classes and designs interventions for those in need.
Joins teachers' team meetings, as needed, to support curriculum development and identify opportunities for instructional support.
Assists Social Studies teachers with differentiated activities in their classrooms.
Provides individual or small group tutorials for students assigned by classroom teachers as well as to students who drop in to the Tutorial as needed.
Works with the Social Studies department leader to develop practices to promote self-direction, reflection, and student ownership over the writing process.
Participates in relevant professional development.
Provide instructional support and/or reinforcement of the instructional program for selected students under the supervision of a teacher.
Carry out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities.
Assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction.
Recording individual progress of students.
