About The Position

The Dalton School is seeking assistants and floaters for its Afterschool Program. The position works closely with the Director and Associate Director of Afterschool Program and reports to the Director of Afterschool Program. It is a part-time, hourly position on weekdays. Depending on the assigned location, work begins between 2:45 and 3:00 p.m. and ends at approximately 5:00–5:30 p.m. The salary range is $30–$35, with placement commensurate with experience. The position is non-exempt.

The Dalton School is a progressive K–12 gender-inclusive school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It enrolls more than 1,300 students and has approximately 350 faculty and staff. Guided by the Dalton Plan, the School’s child-centered approach supports students’ evolving needs, interests, and abilities and encourages intellectual independence, creativity, curiosity, and responsibility toward others.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education preferred, or equivalent experience in school or childcare settings.
• Ability to supervise specialty classes when a teacher is absent.
• CPR/First Aid certified.

• Background in theater, dance, music, art, or STEAM.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate classroom activities in general childcare spaces for K–3 or 4th–5th grades.
• Support lead instructors in classes.
• Address unplanned classroom disruptions.
• Maintain current attendance and dismissal records.
• Perform dismissal duties.
• Communicate with families during after-school hours.
• Document and communicate student or instructor concerns to the After School Program Director or Associate Director.
• Assist in specialty classes as needed.
• Supervise specialty classes when a teacher is absent.
