About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and teaching the approved Adult Basic Education (ABE) curriculum for the Robeson Community College District. The incumbent is also responsible for providing placement and follow-up support services for students and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a regional accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience in a community college or public-school setting.
  • Adequate knowledge in English, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Computer Science and Literature.

Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Interacting with Basic Skills Education staff to determine state-of-the-art practices, procedures, and equipment for an up-to-date instructional program valued by employers. Assisting with research and development of information for teaching the approved ABE curriculum. Monitoring professional sources for trends and innovations in ABE for integration into the instructional program.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Planning and organizing the ABE curriculum as approved by relevant entities. Identifying and/or developing instructional materials. Recommending and reviewing textbooks, instructional materials, and supplies. Developing and recommending class schedules. Identifying and/or recommending equipment. Teaching the ABE curriculum. Recommending assessment materials and procedures. Maintaining compliance with Critical Success Factors and North Carolina Performance Measures. Sponsoring and supporting program enrichment activities.
  • Student Services Support: Recruiting students for ABE and other programs. Advising students on program and course requirements, expectations, and completion standards. Maintaining student files. Referring students to Basic Skills Education personnel for guidance and resources. Coordinating retention strategies. Providing supportive services to graduates. Providing assistance and information for student follow-up reports and demographics.
  • Business Services Support: Complying with Fiscal and Equipment Management System policies and procedures.
  • Institutional Support: Assisting with the implementation and enforcement of college policies and procedures. Attending meetings, conferences, seminars, briefings, and training sessions. Attending extracurricular functions. Serving on committees. Exhibiting professional deportment.
  • Public Relations Support: Maintaining intra-institution relationships. Providing liaison support with the North Carolina Community College System and other entities. Promoting Robeson Community College.
  • Professional/Personal Development: Attending a minimum of twelve hours of federal and state mandated professional staff development training annually. Participating in other authorized professional development programs. Pursuing additional professional development courses, seminars, workshops, and institutes. Pursuing local, state, regional, or national certifications.
  • Other: Performing other duties as assigned by the AHS/GED Educational Coordinator, Assistant Vice-President of Basic Skills Education, the Vice-President of Adult and Continuing Education, and/or the President of Robeson Community College.
