About The Position

COPAL is hiring a Basic Education Manager to coordinate all educational activities offered by the Worker’s Center for members seeking to improve their professional skills. The incumbent will also teach two separate classes: Computer Basics and Software Essentials. These classes aim to provide individuals with essential computer and software skills.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Bachelor’s degree and one or more years of teaching experience in any setting.
  • Proficiency in computer basics and software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom).
  • Strong communication and teaching skills.
  • Patience and the ability to work effectively with individuals of various skill levels and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and general education principles of instruction and classroom management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret student test scores (CASAS) and reports.
  • Willingness to learn a variety of tasks and a desire to work in a team-orientated environment.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority.
  • Ability to travel to sites within 15-mile radius of the office.
  • A valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with NorthStar digital literacy or similar platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage GED, NorthStar, and SERVSafe programs and ensure participants meet programmatic outcomes.
  • Facilitate the implementation of 4-6 citizenship classes per year.
  • Refer job seekers to other COPAL programs to job search.
  • Administer the CASAS, TABE, and interest tests.
  • Maintain records of all activities and work collaboratively with the staff to keep files updated.
  • Work collaboratively with other site programs and staff.
  • Participate in professional training on English and citizenship education topics.
  • Participate in agency-wide events and encourage students to participate in advocacy actions.
  • Assist students in signing up for NorthStar digital literacy accounts and encourage regular practice.
  • Print and distribute certificates to students who pass NorthStar tests.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and certificates achieved.
  • Participate in fundraising as appropriate to the role, including site visits with funders and phone banking to increase membership/donor support.
