About The Position

The Adoption Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Adoption Department, ensuring a positive experience for visitors, staff, and animals. This role supervises and supports Adoption Counselors, manages schedules, and collaborates with multiple teams. This position requires strong leadership, organization, and communication skills, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team environment. A commitment to animal welfare and providing excellent customer service is essential.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years supervising experience
  • Minimum High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license required and a safe driving record
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Proficient in data entry, recordkeeping, and learning new software
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Comfortable handling and teaching safe handling of dogs, cats, and other animals
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), walking, and standing for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work weekends, evenings, and special events as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in the Spanish language is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Adoption Department
  • Work with the Shelter Director to interview, hire, educate and train Adoption Counselors
  • Manage team work schedules
  • Maintain a professional and positive environment that is engaging for both staff and the public
  • Resolve any disputes or complaints involving the public
  • Oversee the adoption process
  • Ensure accurate animal and financial record keeping
  • Coordinate with the Outreach team to plan for mobile Adoption events
  • Coordinate with multiple teams to ensure animal photos, bios, and kennel cards are updated and displayed appropriately.
  • Assist the Intake and the Foster and Transport team with animal movement in and out of the shelter as needed
  • Perform periodic review of adoption processes to provide input for improvement and efficiency
  • Stay atop of animal welfare best practices by attending webinars, trainings, and conferences
  • All other duties as assigned
