About The Position

This position reports to the Correctional Programs Director I at a medium custody male correctional facility and must be able to work under stressful conditions to meet daily/monthly deadlines. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience keeping records and/or files
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience using Offender Population Unified System (OPUS)

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with population management to facilitate the transfer of offenders in and out of the facility
  • Maintaining offender field jackets and coordinating trips, transfers, and the backlogging of offenders
  • Maintaining files and records effectively according to departmental policy allowing for quick, easy access, and retrieval of requested information.
  • Composing memorandums and letters with limited or no instruction. Proofreading documents for spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Entering and comprehending computer generated data and reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy and integrity of information
  • Receiving and processing sectional mail
  • Maintaining confidentiality and working well independently in close proximity to other staff
  • Compiling data from a variety of sources and reports.
