About The Position

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our Investigative Services Unit as an Administrative Specialist. The Administrative Specialist manages all operations associated with the Notice, Storage, and Theft Unit to ensure compliance with NCGS 20-77 and 44A.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of related administrative experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with programs and applications used by members assigned to the Dealer Section, e.g. STARS, SADLS, INovah, OneDrive, MS Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Pro, MS Teams, Remote Deposit Capture etc.
  • Basic knowledge of State Highway Patrol operations and polices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain reports on vehicles that are reported stolen and/or recovered in North Carolina and to process LT-262 (Notice of Intent to Sell a Vehicle to Satisfy a Storage and/or Mechanics ‘ Lien) forms received in this unit daily from garage owners and landowners, who desire to exert their liens by selling unclaimed vehicles at public or private sales according to North Carolina General Statutes 20-77(d) and G.S. 44A.
  • Monitors incoming reports of stolen vehicles and reports of recovered vehicles that are received daily through the DCI (Division of Crime Information Center) system to ensure vehicles are properly removed and proper notifications is generated to notify all parties with interest in said vehicles of its’ disposition.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all mandates set forth by North Carolina General Statutes 20-102, 103 and 104, are complied with by verifying the report of a stolen vehicle.
  • Compile and maintain a list of all vehicles, which have been reported stolen and/or recovered for future reporting and proper records maintenance.
  • Manage the processing of unclaimed vehicle reports, mechanic/storage liens, tax warrants, stolen vehicle reports and recovery vehicle reports including data entry into the DMV State Title and Registration System (STARS).
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and confirm all correspondence is properly executed to ensure NC Motor Vehicle Laws are followed and to ensure that the vehicle owners are properly notified of their vehicle’s location.
  • Monitor and insure these processes have been accurately entered into the DMV database in a timely manner to avoid costly court claim actions being filed against the state and minimize storage costs to taxpayers and insurance companies.
  • Verify and enter this data into the DMV database within the statutory time requirements.
  • Manages DWI seizure reports through DCI notification from law enforcement agencies throughout the state.
  • Manages the DMV database automatically generates notices, which notify the non-defendant owner and lien holder that the vehicle has been seized and of their rights in recovering the vehicle.
