About The Position

This is a temporary position with the NC Disability Determination Services (NCDDS) Division under the NC Department of Health & Human Services. The division is responsible for making medical determinations on disability claims for the Social Security Administration and the state Medicaid office. The division adjudicates over 140,000 initial disability applications, reconsiderations, reviews for continuing eligibility, and continuing disability review appeals annually under the Social Security and Supplemental Security Income program and disability applications for medical assistance. This position supports the Budget Unit by maintaining the electronic Vendor File for the agency, which involves establishing new vendors in the internal and statewide accounting system, updating existing vendor information, resolving discrepancies, analyzing vendor status, and processing electronic medical evidence of records (MER) vouchers for payments. The position also involves researching vendor information and returned checks. The role offers exposure to an agency's culture, processes, and procedures, providing valuable experience for those seeking permanent employment with the state.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities.
  • Considerable knowledge of policies and procedures related to a program or area of specialization.
  • Skilled in providing excellent service to internal and external customers.
  • Ability to grasp complex learning situations that involve several steps and require appropriate action within procedural and operational guidelines.
  • Knowledge of NCFS and Microsoft suite (with a focus on Excel and Outlook)

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the electronic Vendor File for the agency, which involves establishing new vendors in the internal and statewide accounting system
  • Updating existing vendor information to ensure system integrity and payments
  • Resolving discrepancies in the vendor file
  • Analyzing the status of vendors on a routine basis and deleting out-of-date vendors
  • Processing electronic medical evidence of records (MER) vouchers for payments
  • Researching vendors' information and returned checks from vendors
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
