About The Position

THIS IS A PART TIME CONTRACTUAL POSITION. The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This position is responsible for the development, delivery, revision, and implementation of all emergency vehicle operations (EVO) training objectives, practical exercises, and evaluation in support of all the Police and Correctional Training Commissions (PCTC) EVO programs administered by staff assigned to the Driver Training Unit (DTU). This is a professional training administrator/coordinator/instructing position within the PCTC DTU which is responsible for providing COMAR mandated entrance-level, in-service, and instructor certification and continued education to police and correctional professionals throughout Maryland and other jurisdictions. The selected candidate will research, identify, design, develop, organize, implement, coordinate, instruct, manage, and evaluate the delivery of all programs of the EVO course of study.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • One year of experience instructing for a police academy or police in-service training program.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
  • The ideal candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English.
  • The ideal candidate must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess an emergency vehicle operations instructor certification from MPCTC or must be able to achieve such a certification within six months of beginning employment.
  • Possess an academic instructor certification from MPCTC or must be able to achieve such a certification within six months of beginning employment.
  • Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, develop, implement, coordinate emergency vehicle operations curriculum
  • Instruct/deliver emergency vehicle operations programs and courses of study.
  • Monitor assigned allied / client agencies with the facility use ensuring procedure and compliance with rules and protocols.
  • Investigate and complete all associated forms/paperwork for qualified collisions and unintended incidents involving DTU property and equipment.
  • Provide maintenance support as necessary to ensure accessibility to the facility and courses.
