About The Position

The Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office (AMCO) are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable employee to join their team. The primary responsibility will be delivering exceptional, personalized customer service to everyone who walks through the doors or reaches out by phone. Duties will include guiding applicants through the alcohol permit intake process and efficiently creating marijuana handler permits with accuracy and care. AMCO’s mission is to enforce alcohol and marijuana commerce laws and provide clear, consistent standards for licensure to protect the public from harm. The role plays a crucial part in supporting the AMCO team by ensuring permits are processed swiftly, accurately, and with consistent professionalism, directly contributing to safer, well-regulated communities across Alaska.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate through strong oral and written skills to individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to actively listen to public and licensee requests and forward the inquiry to those in the office who can best assist the individual.
  • Ability to multi-task, establish priorities, organization, attention to detail, work independently, and work well under pressure with numerous interruptions.
  • Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
  • OR Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)
  • Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.
  • Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
