About The Position

The Department of Art and Design at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position in Art and Design. This position begins as early as August 2026 and involves teaching a variety of courses in Art and Design, including general education and service courses. Potential course subjects include Art Education, Graphic Design, and Visual Arts. The role also includes engaging in personal scholarship and scholarship with students, advising students, participating in departmental activities and governance, serving on university committees, and contributing to students' post-graduate career preparation and self-discovery.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree or professional qualifications in the Art and Design field.
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • A minimum of one year of higher education teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds preferred.
  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university.
  • Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
  • Agreement to live in accordance with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in the area of Art and Design including some general education and service courses.
  • Course subjects may include the following: Art Education, Graphic Design, and/or Visual Arts.
  • Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible).
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially.
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance (as requested).
  • Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties (as requested).
  • Contribute in preparing students for their post graduate career and finding who they are called to be.

Benefits

  • PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $5,013 - $6,684. The units will determine the actual salary.
