About The Position

The Department of English at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) is seeking applications from instructors with experience teaching first-year writing to teach ENG 101 Rhetoric and College Writing and ENG 102 College Writing and Civic Engagement. The university especially welcomes instructors who may have availability during the day. Adjunct faculty are required to complete mandatory annual employee training, including Ethics, and Preventing Harassment & Discrimination. Adjunct faculty teaching online courses must complete the Building Digital Community (BDC) self-paced course during their first semester teaching online to be eligible to teach additional online courses at UIS. The University of Illinois Springfield is one of three members of the University of Illinois system, located in the state capital. Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in English or a related field
  • First-year writing teaching experience
  • If holding a master's degree or higher in a different field, must have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English or a related field.
  • Ability to teach ENG 101 Rhetoric and College Writing
  • Ability to teach ENG 102 College Writing and Civic Engagement
