Adjunct (per course) Instructor - Biology
About The Position
The Biology program at the University of Illinois Springfield has occasional need for adjunct (per course) instructors. Adjunct employment at UIS is not covered by Social Security and is instead covered by the State University Retirement System. Adjunct faculty are required to complete mandatory annual employee training, including Ethics, and Preventing Harassment & Discrimination. Adjunct faculty teaching online courses must successfully complete the Building Digital Community (BDC) self-paced course during their first semester teaching online to be eligible to teach additional online courses at UIS. The University of Illinois Springfield is one of three members of the University of Illinois system, located in the state capital. UIS serves approximately 4,000 students in a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with a strong liberal arts core and a focus on public policy and service. The University emphasizes excellence in teaching, and faculty are expected to provide a balance of scholarship and service activities.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or higher in Biology or a subfield for undergraduate programs.
- If holding a master’s degree or higher in a different discipline, must have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Biology or a subfield.
- For graduate programs: Terminal degree determined by the discipline, with a record of research, scholarship or achievement appropriate for the graduate program.
- Complete mandatory annual employee training (e.g., Ethics, Preventing Harassment & Discrimination).
- Successfully complete the Building Digital Community (BDC) self-paced course during the first semester teaching online (for online courses).
Responsibilities
- Teach Biology courses on a per-course basis.
