About The Position

The Chemistry program at the University of Illinois Springfield has occasional need for adjunct (per course) instructors. Adjunct employment at UIS is not covered by Social Security and is instead covered by the State University Retirement System. You will not pay Social Security taxes, and your earnings will not be on your Social Security Record. However, your record will show your Medicare wages. Your pension from the State Universities Retirement System may affect the amount of your Social Security benefit and Social Security benefit as a spouse. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Requirements

  • For undergraduate programs: Master’s degree or higher in the discipline or subfield.
  • If holding a Master's degree or higher in a different discipline, must have completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Chemistry.
  • For graduate programs: Terminal degree determined by the discipline, with a record of research, scholarship or achievement appropriate for the graduate program.

Responsibilities

  • Teach chemistry courses on a per-course basis.
  • Complete mandatory annual employee training, including Ethics, and Preventing Harassment & Discrimination.
  • Successfully complete the Building Digital Community (BDC) self-paced course during their first semester teaching online to be eligible to teach additional online courses at UIS (for online courses).
