About The Position

Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) is seeking applications for adjunct teaching positions in Engineering within the Engineering and Physical Sciences Department. The Engineering Transfer program is a two-year curriculum designed to build a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering, preparing students to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree. This role requires proficiency in core engineering principles, mathematics, and physics, with specific expertise in mechanical, civil, or electrical engineering disciplines. The position involves teaching courses, preparing instructional materials, assessing student performance, providing student assistance, collaborating with faculty, and engaging in professional development. Teaching may occur across various modalities, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face. Adjunct instructors must adhere to all college policies and administrative deadlines.

Requirements

Master's degree within the field or Master's plus 18 credits of graduate level work specific to the field.
College teaching experience, high school teaching experience, or adult education experience.
Proficiency in the core principles and practices of engineering relevant to the courses being taught, including mathematics, physics and specific engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering.
Mechanical Engineering: Understanding of thermodynamics, mechanics (statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials), fluid mechanics, and design and manufacturing (CAD software, manufacturing processes, materials selection).
Civil Engineering: Proficiency in structural analysis and design, mechanics (statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials), fluid mechanics, and design and manufacturing (CAD software, manufacturing processes, materials selection).
Electrical Engineering: Understanding of circuit analysis (AC/DC), electronics (semiconductor devices, digital electronics), power systems (generation, transmission, distribution), and signal processing (analog/digital techniques).
Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts in a clear and accessible manner, both verbally and in writing, to students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Flexibility to adjust teaching methods and materials to accommodate the needs and learning styles of diverse student populations.
Skill in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, managing classroom dynamics, and fostering student engagement.
Capacity to provide academic and career guidance, mentorship, and support to students pursuing careers in engineering.
