About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach the Business course Building Sustainable Futures (BMGT 240) remotely. The course explores how businesses achieve long-term sustainability by integrating responsible practices into core operations. It examines environmental and societal impacts of business activities and includes sustainability audits, circular economy strategies, operational efficiency, ethical decision-making, stakeholder expectations, and climate resilience. Case studies and applied projects help students develop actionable strategies that align business practices with sustainability goals and generate value for organizations and society.

UMGC seeks scholar-practitioners who are actively and successfully engaged in their professional fields and wish to support the next generation of professionals. Adjunct faculty engage students through frequent interaction, guide collaborative and applied learning, provide constructive feedback and assess work using rubrics, demonstrate current subject-matter expertise, help students connect concepts across their program, and provide curricular feedback to the program chair.

New faculty must successfully complete the online two-week FacDev 411 orientation as a condition of hire. The position is available and will remain open until filled. Salary is commensurate with experience and is paid per credit hour according to rank and degree; the listed ranges are $806–$1,050 for Instructor without a terminal degree, $877–$1,127 for Assistant Adjunct Professor without a terminal degree, $1,023–$1,288 for Assistant Adjunct Professor with a terminal degree, $947–$1,205 for Associate Adjunct Professor without a terminal degree, $1,202–$1,483 for Associate Adjunct Professor with a terminal degree, $1,023–$1,288 for Adjunct Professor without a terminal degree, and $1,347–$1,645 for Adjunct Professor with a terminal degree, per credit hour.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Business or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in Sustainability, Business Strategy, or related fields.
• Directly relevant, current, and active industry professional experience in Business or a closely related field.

Nice To Haves

• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
• Cover letter is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach Building Sustainable Futures (BMGT 240) remotely for the Business program.

• Provide regular, constructive feedback, use rubrics to assess student work, and acknowledge student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant, current subject-matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to the program chair on possible curricular improvements.
• Complete the online two-week FacDev 411 new faculty orientation as a condition of hire.
