About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the Division Dean of Arts and Communication, the primary responsibility of this position is to instruct in the community college's Culinary Arts Program. The program is accredited by American Culinary Federation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years of directly related experience OR Associate’s Degree plus six years of directly related experience, OR the equivalent.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Copies of transcripts are required with application.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the American Culinary Federation and SERVSAFE certification by the National Restaurant Association.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the secondary or postsecondary level.
  • Demonstrated work experience in baking, food production, food service management and restaurant operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Participate in program evaluation and ACF accreditation activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present information in classroom and kitchen laboratory instructional settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with advisory committees in the development and revision of curriculum, program review and fund raising.
  • Active membership in culinary-related professional organizations/associations.
  • Demonstrated utilization of individualized teaching methodologies to meet the needs of Delta College’s diverse student body.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and desire to work with community groups and schools to coordinate the educational program with the needs of the community.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated ability in student recruitment and program marketing.
  • Demonstrated successful experiences working with a wide range of students of diverse backgrounds and with varying degrees of ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to use innovative methods and adaptability to change to provide experiences in current industry standard practices.
  • An earned Baccalaureate, Master's, or Doctorate degree in a relevant/related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct courses in Culinary Arts to meet the educational requirements stated in the credit course outlines and program outcomes.
  • Advise and assist students in achieving stated course objectives.
  • Maintain current knowledge and abilities with on-going and new developments in the field of Culinary Arts.
  • Assist the Division Dean in cooperating with campus and community groups to provide programs, courses, and information relevant to the needs of the students and the program.
  • Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of required reports.
  • Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review and revision.
  • Complete various reporting procedures as required for student evaluation, course reporting and budget development.
  • Attend various departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities as stipulated.
  • Assist in the marketing and promotion of the program by participating in special college sponsored events and by visiting local organizations and schools.
  • Participate in the departmental processes for recommendation of equipment purchase and care.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional and campus-wide committees as part of the shared governance.
  • Participate in divisional committees as assigned by the Division Dean.
  • Participate in program evaluation and ACF Accreditation activities.
  • Perform other necessary duties which assure the smooth functioning of the Division, as assigned by the Division Dean and as outlined in Board Policy.
