Adjunct Assistant Nursing Professor, Simulation
About The Position
Johnson County Community College is seeking two (2) adjunct nursing faculty to teach in the Zamierowski Center for Healthcare Simulation (ZCHS). The ZCHS adjunct nursing faculty is a clinically experienced subject matter expert who is responsible for facilitating student learning and performance in the on-site simulation center. The ZCHS provides an immersive simulation learning experience for Associate Degree Nursing (ADN-Registered Nurse) students. The adjunct nursing faculty will be responsible for working with faculty, students, staff, and external stakeholders to ensure that the highest quality simulation learning activities are efficiently integrated and implemented across the nursing curriculum. These positions involves the use of interactive and simulated technology, with evidence-based simulation models, to implement and evaluate simulation scenarios as an educational modality. Adjunct nursing faculty will provide clinical, educational, and technical expertise in simulation-based activities in the ZCHS. Faculty will work as part of the ZCHS team to provide current best practice for patient scenarios during a simulation clinical day which compliments the pre-licensure nursing curriculum. Faculty will be actively involved with scenario implementation, facilitation, and debriefing for learners. Student learning activities will include resolving simple-to-complex patient care situations via high-fidelity simulation. Adjunct nursing faculty are responsible for setting up and tearing down simulation scenario environments, and preconference activities. Other team duties may also be assigned. Although simulation days would begin in the spring 2027 semester (late January/early February), current ZCHS team members would prefer to offer some training sessions late this fall for the new adjunct faculty.
Requirements
- Masters degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. Candidates with a BSN and requisite experience will be considered.
- Active single-state RN license in Kansas, or an active Multi-state RN license.
- Active BLS certification as a Healthcare Provider (through American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
- A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent nursing experience within the last five years.
- Ability to multi-task; process multiple sources of information quickly.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to understand and utilize advanced technical simulation equipment, and communicate that knowledge to others as appropriate.
- Ability to create and maintain a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process.
- Visionary approach to simulation education in clinical and academic settings.
Nice To Haves
- Current ACLS certification or instructor experience.
- One to three years relevant teaching experience in simulation, simulation/nursing education, or critical care experience.
- Background/expertise in instructional and pedagogical concepts and methods in health care skills and simulation modality.
- Knowledge of Gaumard Patient Simulator software and hardware.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using an electronic health record (EHR).
