About The Position

Louisiana Delta Community College is seeking an Adjunct Adult Education Instructor to teach adult education classes. This role involves planning and delivering instruction tailored to adult learners, preparing students for high school equivalency tests and enhancing basic education skills. The instructor will create a conducive learning environment, administer assessments, maintain records, and foster student accountability and self-advocacy. Adherence to college standards and confidentiality regulations is expected.

Requirements

  • An Associate's degree or higher
  • Strong communication skills, including both written and oral
  • Ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of personalities
  • Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Teaching adult education classes using instructional methods geared towards the adult learner in a classroom setting
  • Planning lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the high school equivalency tests and/or enhance basic education skills
  • Delivering whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to students, using a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques
  • Creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Assuring that students who qualify are pre- and post-tested as needed using the TABE Assessment as dictated by DRC and Adult Education guidelines
  • Keeping daily attendance records and progress reports
  • Maintaining accurate, complete, and up-to-date records
  • Entering all reportable data, according to policy and procedures, into the approved Student Information System
  • Participating and managing registration, testing, and scheduling events
  • Establishing a positive and trusting relationship with students
  • Fostering student accountability, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and critical thinking skills
  • Adhering to regulations set forth regarding confidentiality of student records
  • Promoting participation of students in all aspects of Adult Education programming
  • Maintaining clean and professional classroom environment
  • Adhering to LDCC's Standards of Practice
  • Performing any other duties as assigned
