About The Position

The Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is the backbone of Oregon state government, providing essential business services such as finance, technology, procurement, publishing, distribution, HR, and facility management. As an Accounting Technician, this role ensures payments are accurate, timely, and compliant by working with real financial data and applying statewide accounting policies. The position offers hands-on experience with statewide financial systems, collaboration with agencies across Oregon, and opportunities to build skills in accounting, compliance, and customer service, serving as a starting point for a career in public finance.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR
  • One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; OR
  • Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR
  • At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
  • Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

  • Experience in accounts payable or similar transactional accounting work
  • Knowledge of GAAP or governmental accounting principles

Responsibilities

  • Process payments, travel reimbursements, and contract‑related transactions
  • Make sure payments meet state rules and documentation requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve discrepancies
  • Review invoices for accuracy
  • Maintain and set up vendor accounts
  • Reconcile statements and payment histories
  • Use statewide accounting systems
  • Support audits and answer agency questions
