About The Position

This position is responsible for all accounts payable owed by the City of Artesia. Reports to the Assistant City Clerk-Treasurer. Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may vary among positions, but may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in the classification.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with accounts payable.
  • Typing at 50 wpm.
  • 10 key calculator by touch.
  • Basic office, computer and bookkeeping skills.
  • High school education or GED.
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of bookkeeping/accounting
  • Knowledge of automated accounts payable system
  • Knowledge of governmental purchasing practices
  • Knowledge of windows-based computer system including data entry, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Ability to file accurately.
  • Knowledge of cashier functions.
  • Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.

Responsibilities

  • Settle all accounts payable owed by the City of Artesia.
  • Resolve discrepancies with invoices and purchase orders.
  • Resolve discrepancies with vendors through Purchasing Agent.
  • Data entry of information for payment.
  • Prepare accounts payable reports.
  • File all accounts payable documents.
  • Prepare IRS 1099 forms to vendors.
