About The Position

This position is located in the Accounts Payable Section of the DPS-Controller’s Office. The primary purpose of this position is to audit, process and manage departmental medical services and prescription RX purchases. As part of this task, the position must handle confidential information with discretion. This position must work with specific division contacts to reconcile payment data as well as perform trouble-shooting steps to resolve payment and account issues. The primary purpose of the Department of Public Safety Controller’s Office is to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policies and procedures to ensure that departmental financial data and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations. The Controller’s Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility for the department and is accountable to the Office of the State Controller to preserve the integrity of that data.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution, or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience processing direct payment invoices and/ or purchase order (PO) numbered invoices and/or other invoice types
  • Experience using Microsoft Office functions, such as Excel, Word, and/or Outlook
  • Experience using the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) and/or other electronic accounting system(s)
  • Experience with assisting, interpreting, and analyzing accounting data in various aspects

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and processing Direct Payment invoices and/or Purchase Order (PO-Matching) Numbered invoices
  • Utilizing the NC E-Procurement System and the NCFS (North Carolina Financial System) to research, enter, and pay invoices for goods and services for all DPS positions
  • Reconciling payment data and troubleshooting problems with payments and accounts
  • Consulting with vendors and staff regarding account issues
