About The Position

Ventura County Transportation Commission is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Technician to join its Finance team. This full-time, temporary-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a candidate who enjoys accurate financial work, organized recordkeeping, and supporting essential public transportation operations in Ventura County. The Accounting Technician plays an important role in supporting VCTC’s Finance team through accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, journal entries, report preparation, document scanning, and organized financial recordkeeping. This position reports to the Finance Director and works closely with the Accounting Manager and Senior Accountants.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education/experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities listed below is qualifying.
  • A minimum of three (3) to four (4) years performing similar functions.
  • An understanding of accounting theory.
  • Sound math skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to support a collaborative finance team.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate/ bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • A combination of accounting college level coursework and related work experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice review, coding, data entry, collections support, and payment documentation.
  • Assist with transit-related reconciliations, bus pass sales and disbursements, monthly and annual reporting, and related spreadsheet tracking.
  • Help process payroll for staff and Commissioners, including reviewing timesheets, verifying information, preparing payroll reports, and maintaining records.
  • Prepare, scan, copy, organize, and file financial documentation for billing, audits, reporting, and annual records management.
  • Assist with financial reports, journal entries, budget preparation, ACFR support, lease adjustments, and audit documentation.
