Accounting Support Specialist CL2 - Student Financial Services
About The Position
The University of Southern Maine is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused individual to join our Student Financial Services team as an Accounting Support Specialist CL2. In this role, you will serve as a primary point of contact for student account inquiries and provide direct support for financial transactions and account activity. You will assist students and families by explaining account balances, billing processes, payment options, and related policies, and will handle both routine and more complex inquiries with professionalism and accuracy. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment in applying policies and procedures, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment. This is a full-time in person position on our Gorham campus.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Demonstrated administrative and accounting support or comparable experience
- Ability to work well with many people at all levels
- Computer proficiency (ex. MS Office, web)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
Responsibilities
- Posting and processing payments
- Maintaining and updating student accounts
- Supporting billing and payment plans
- Processing transactions such as deposits, refunds, and adjustments
- Operating and reconciling cash drawers
- Preparing deposits
- Ensuring accurate daily reconciliation of financial activity
- Monitoring account balances
- Identifying and helping resolve discrepancies
- Conducting outreach related to past-due balances and account holds in accordance with established procedures
- Processing financial aid-related transactions
- Maintaining records
- Running queries to support account monitoring
- Assisting with general office operations
