About The Position

This is a professional supervisory position responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of accounting operations within the Treasurer’s Office. The Accounting Supervisor reports to the Chief Deputy Treasurer and directly supervises the Accountant and Financial Technician positions within the Treasurer’s Office.

Requirements

A comprehensive understanding of governmental accounting procedures and automated systems is required.
Proficiency in computer applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
Must have the ability to independently plan and manage projects.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience in establishing, building, and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues, clients, and the public.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Experience in supervising, training, and motivating staff while fostering a collaborative work environment.
Bachelor’s degree required (concentration in business, accounting or public administration preferred) with at least (3) years of progressively responsible experience in related field, including supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other relevant professional certification preferred.
Experience in governmental or public sector accounting desired or any equivalent combination of education – OR – Any experience and training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.

Responsibilities

Supervise employees, performing human resources functions and completing necessary paperwork.
Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency and compliance with established policies and procedures.
Reconcile all county bank accounts, investment accounts and cash balances on a regular basis.
Supervise completion of all reconciliations in a timely manner.
Monitor cash activity and coordinate with financial institutions regarding deposits, transfers, investments and accounts maintenance.
Prepare annual financial reports related to Treasurer’s office activities and Compile annual reports accounting for all county assets, cash holdings, investments and assist with year-end closing activities and coordinate documentation required for the county’s annual financial audit.
Coordinates, researches and resolves financial discrepancies.
Manages annual state audit.
Serves as department representative for auditors and County financial staff in addressing and resolving accounts/financial controls and related administrative issues.
Ensure compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards, applicable state laws, county policies and accepted governmental accounting practices.
Respond to inquiries from county departments, auditors, financial institutions and governmental agencies.
Completes Security for Public Deposits Act (SPDA) reporting.
Daily completion of state estimated tax collection including monthly reconciliation with certification to the state.
Responsible for opening and closing escrow bank accounts.
Perform other related duties as assigned
