About The Position

People Architects is seeking a Part-Time Accounting Specialist to support and strengthen our client’s finance operations. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong bookkeeping skills, QuickBooks proficiency, payroll experience, and the judgment to do more than simply process transactions. We are looking for someone who can own recurring accounting processes, manage invoicing, support payroll-related work, review financial reports, and help create better visibility into the business. The right person will be accurate, reliable, discreet, and able to connect the dots across bookkeeping, payroll, benefits, onboarding, billing, and reporting. This is a part-time role, expected to average 15–20 hours per week once responsibilities are fully transitioned. People Architects is open to structuring the role as either a part-time employee position or a consultant/contractor arrangement, depending on the right candidate.

Requirements

  • Strong QuickBooks experience.
  • Payroll experience.
  • Prior bookkeeping, accounting, or junior accounting experience.
  • Ability to independently manage recurring financial processes once trained.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with confidential financial and employee information.
  • Comfortable working in a small business environment.
  • Strong follow-through, organization, and reliability.
  • Ability to work approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a professional services, consulting, recruiting, HR, or small business environment.
  • Experience reviewing P&L statements and identifying basic trends or issues.
  • Exposure to basic forecasting or junior FP&A-style work.
  • Experience improving bookkeeping, billing, payroll, or financial operations processes.
  • Background as a junior accountant, accounting specialist, experienced bookkeeper, or accounting professional returning to the workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and properly categorize transactions.
  • Own monthly client invoicing and ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and clearly aligned with services provided.
  • Support payroll-related processes and coordinate with internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Assist with unemployment filings, ACH processes, and other recurring accounting/administrative finance tasks.
  • Review P&L statements and identify basic trends, gaps, concerns, or questions.
  • Support simple forecasting and cash flow visibility.
  • Help leadership better understand what the numbers are showing.
  • Identify errors, inconsistencies, or process breakdowns before they create downstream issues.
  • Create, maintain, and improve accounting process documentation.
  • Proactively recommend improvements to make billing, payroll, reporting, and bookkeeping processes more efficient and reliable.
  • Take direction from Shelly while independently owning assigned financial workflows.
  • Handle confidential financial, payroll, employee, and client information with professionalism and discretion.
