About The Position

The Accounting Clerk I processes financial transactions for inmates, maintains accurate inmate account records, and assists with financial inquiries. The role works under the supervision of the Warden, Chief of Security, and Administrative Supervisor to support compliance with facility policies and financial regulations.

The position requires accurate transaction processing, detailed recordkeeping, reporting, and communication with inmates about their accounts. The clerk may also assist with booking and release procedures for financial processing and perform other duties assigned by supervisory personnel.

Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial transactions.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and related financial software.
• Basic knowledge of accounting and banking procedures.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Accurately post deposits to inmate accounts.
• Process financial transactions, including withdrawals and commissary purchases.
• Respond to inmate inquiries regarding account balances and transactions.
• Prepare monthly reports on indigent funds, commissary sales, and federal reimbursements.
• Maintain detailed records of inmate financial transactions and deposited funds.
• Prepare daily reports for inmate welfare accounts and related financial records.
• Issue checks from inmate welfare accounts as required.
• Crosstrain in booking and release procedures to assist with financial processing.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.
