About The Position

This position is for an Accounting Clerk I/II within the Financial Operations Section at First National Bank Alaska. The role involves preparing, posting, and reconciling the bank's general ledger. Requirements

  • Ability to keyboard 35 wpm and operate a 10-key calculator by sight required.
  • Word processing and spreadsheet software experience required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding while carrying out written, oral, or diagram instructions; and to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
  • Accounting Clerk I Minimum: One year accounting or bookkeeping related experience or training.
  • Accounting Clerk II Minimum: Associate's degree in accounting or related field; or two years accounting or bookkeeping related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior financial services industry experience.
  • Prior accounting experience in the financial services industry.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, posts, and reconciles the bank’s general ledger.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts; identifies outstanding items, balances application reports to the general ledger, and researches and resolves discrepancies working with appropriate internal and external personnel.
  • Balances teller cash on hand to general ledger and works with operations staff to resolve discrepancies.
  • Reconciles bank demand deposit accounts domiciled at other institutions.
  • Meets established expectations as they relate to call handling, including average talk time, wrap-up codes, not-ready time, etc.
  • Reviews general ledger tickets for correct account number, classification, description, and authorization; works with appropriate management personnel to correct or clarify discrepancies.
  • Posts descriptions to general ledger entries run through the proof encoding system.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned supervisor.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations and complete all compliance training on time.
  • Knowledgeable of and comply with bank policies, procedures, laws, and regulations that apply to you and your job.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protect the bank’s operations by identifying and protecting confidential information.
