Located in our Calgary downtown office, the Accountant, Reporting will work as part of the Financial Reporting and Capital team. The role includes mentoring students and supporting month-end accounting, financial reporting, fixed assets, and G&A activities. This role also supports other parts of the accounting and finance team, including revenue, COGS, OPEX and FP&A. The Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) is a world-scale integrated complex comprised of a propane dehydrogenation plant, a polypropylene plant and a co-generation central utilities block. HPC is designed to convert locally sourced propane into approximately 525,000 tonnes of polypropylene per year, which is used in a wide range of consumer and industrial products.

Requirements

  • CPA designation with over 3+ years relevant experience (industry or public practice)
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting
  • Experience with month-end close and corporate reporting processes
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP and Power BI considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end and quarter-end close by preparing accounting models, updating working papers, and analyzing variances
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages, including presentations and commentary for senior leadership
  • Maintain and enhance the Variable Contribution Model (VCM), including supporting analysis and reporting outputs
  • Own the G&A dashboard, including data refreshes, Power BI updates, and variance analysis
  • Analyze G&A expenses and provide insights to cost center owners on month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter changes
  • Support SOX compliance, including balance sheet and income statement variance analysis
  • Ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies, internal controls, and audit requirements
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy
  • Partner with finance teams (FP&A, revenue, OPEX, COGS) to support business initiatives and reporting needs
