About The Position

Jealous Fruits is the northern most large-scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all hand packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to customers worldwide. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of the organization by overseeing the daily accounting processes, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The individual will work closely with the Director of Finance to maintain accurate financial records and implement best practices for accounting and financial reporting. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and progressive accounting experience will be considered for example: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Familiarity with GST/HST and PST compliance and filing requirements
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting month-end and year-end processes
  • Experience establishing and maintaining internal financial controls
  • Proficiency with Canadian accounting and financial software systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and quality
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of how accounting impacts business operations
  • Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • Effective organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong project management and time management abilities
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, seasonal, or changing environment
  • High level of professional ethics, integrity, and confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • GL Reconciliations/ Quarterly and Year-end working papers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate closing of the books.
  • Manage outside grower accounting and preparation of Grower Statements.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and taxes, including GAAP or ASPE.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance to improve accounting processes and systems.
  • Document and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain asset ledgers: record additions/disposals/amortization
  • Manage orchard lease payments and maintain lease agreement records.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
  • Assist in training staff on financial procedures and system
