About The Position

By emphasizing ONE Park, ONE Mission, One Team, the Accountant II ensures the accuracy and compliance of the credit union's accounting records and reports with established policies and generally accepted accounting practices. This role involves reviewing, verifying, and posting journal entries, reconciling bank statements and general ledger accounts, and preparing reports for management and regulatory purposes. The Accountant II assists with audits, analyzes financial reports, and coordinates accounting matters with other departments. Additionally, this position provides support for special projects and develops recommendations to enhance processes, productivity, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

  • Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • A bachelor's degree, or achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
  • Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
  • Experience with data processing systems including Excel, Word, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews, validates, and records journal entries, ensuring their accuracy and proper classification across various accounts, including loans, investments, fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, shares, income, and expenses.
  • Examines bank statements, general ledger accounts, and accounts payable. Prepares and reviews the work of other accounting staff, including general ledger reconciliations.
  • Coordinates accounting matters with other departments/locations. Serves as accounting resource on special projects as assigned. Ensures completion of tasks; reports work status and/or issues of concern to manager, as applicable.
  • Prepares department, management, and board reports on a monthly, quarterly, annual, or as assigned basis. Compiles Call Report schedules for submission and completes IRS Form 945 reporting. Ensures federal tax withholdings are accurately reported within established deadlines.
  • Analyzes financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations relative to the accounting of accruals, assets and expenditures, bringing any items needing further evaluation or analysis to manager immediately.
  • Assist in audits of the credit unions records by examiners, CPA firms and internal auditors.
  • Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures to improve credit union processes, productivity and/or costs.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
