Accountant, CPA - Cross-Border (US / Canada)

AmpThinkFort Erie, ON
Onsite

About The Position

AmpThink is seeking a designated CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) to manage the financial operations of its Canadian office in Fort Erie. This senior, accounting-led role involves owning the Canadian entity's books, handling Canadian tax and payroll remittances, and serving as the on-the-ground financial contact. The position offers a genuinely cross-border opportunity, requiring the management of a Canadian set of books that reports to a U.S. parent, including reconciling intercompany activity, working in both CAD and USD, and bridging Canadian requirements with U.S. head-office processes. The role is on-site in Fort Erie and is well-suited for someone in the Niagara region seeking a stable position close to home. Experience in construction or project-based accounting is a plus, as it aligns with AmpThink's venue projects. This is a newly created position.

Requirements

  • CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation.
  • Strong, hands-on full-cycle accounting experience, including AP/AR, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian GST/HST and payroll source-deduction / CRA remittances.
  • Proficiency with a cloud accounting/ERP system and strong Excel skills (experience with Zoho, QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero transfers well).
  • Comfort coordinating with a head office in another country and working across CAD and USD.
  • Genuine comfort working independently; self-directed, organized, and reliable.
  • Willingness to carry light office-management duties (mail, receiving, and coordination) alongside accounting tasks.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and operate a manual pallet jack for occasional receiving.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Able to pass a background and reference check.

Nice To Haves

  • Construction, technology-integration, or other project-based accounting experience, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), and progress billing.
  • Cross-border or intercompany accounting experience, or exposure to both Canadian and U.S. tax and reporting.
  • Experience with multi-currency (CAD/USD) transactions and reconciliations.
  • Experience in a sports, venue, or large-project environment.
  • Experience owning the books for a small entity or branch, or running a small or solo office.
  • Familiarity with the Zoho suite.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full cycle of accounting for the Canadian entity, including accounts payable and receivable, bank and general-ledger reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Support month-end and year-end close with clean, organized records.
  • Assist with U.S. bookkeeping and accounting in partnership with the CFO as time allows.
  • Prepare and remit Canadian GST/HST and payroll source deductions to the CRA, or coordinate them with head office and external advisors.
  • Work across the border with head office in Garland, Texas, reconciling intercompany activity, handling CAD/USD transactions, and keeping U.S. leadership current on Canadian financial matters.
  • Track recurring charges, review and code incoming bills, and route them to the right approvers.
  • Help schedule field resources and track their time, attendance, and expenses in AmpThink’s Zoho tools.
  • Keep the small Fort Erie office running, managing mail, supplies, vendors, filing, and records.
  • Occasionally receive materials at the loading dock, signing for deliveries, moving items with a manual pallet jack, and lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).

Benefits

  • Extended health benefits (after a 90-day waiting period).
  • Contributions to Canadian savings plan.
  • Three weeks of paid vacation per year.
  • Paid statutory holidays.
  • Paid volunteer days through the AmpForce program.
  • Company gear program.
