About The Position

Waste Connections is seeking an Accounting/Billing Specialist (Accountant I) for its South Austin, Texas location near the airport. The role supports business operations and internal and external customers by focusing on customer accounts and billing. The specialist enters contracts, audits customer accounts for accuracy and legitimacy, handles billing inquiries and payment follow-up, documents account correspondence in the billing system, issues credits and debits, and learns and uses available billing tools. The position also provides telephone support for billing, online bill pay, and invoicing. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

3–5 years of general accounting experience; general ledger and/or billing experience is preferred.
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
General understanding of accounting practices and principles.
Good communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and develop alternative solutions.

Nice To Haves

General ledger and/or billing experience.

Responsibilities

Enter contracts and audit customer accounts to verify accuracy and legitimacy.
Contact customers by telephone to determine reasons for overdue payments and review sales, service, or credit contract terms.
Document correspondence on customer accounts in the billing system.
Answer calls and assist internal and external customers with billing, online bill pay support, and invoicing.
Issue credits and debits.
Learn and use available billing tools.
Perform other duties as assigned.
